Finalists in Air New Zealand Cargo ExportNZ Awards 2017 announced.
Waikato software specialist Company-X has joined the league of exporting legends by being named as a finalist in the Air New Zealand Cargo ExportNZ Awards 2017.
Company-X was announced as a contender for the Services Exporter of the Year award, open to businesses with export revenue of up to $10 million, at the Employers and Manufacturers Business Hub in Auckland on May 17.
The software specialist, based at Wintec House in Hamilton, develops software for a diverse group of clients, including international companies, some based in New Zealand, others based in the United States.
The Services Exporter award recognises excellence in businesses who are building extraordinary and sustainable export growth, working in the areas of ICT, tourism, education and consultancy services.
ExportNZ, a division of business advocacy body BusinessNZ, is looking for a winner that has profitable and sustainable foreign exchange growth and is also adept at quality planning, leadership and direction. ExportNZ is also looking for excellence in export marketing and operational excellence for that award category.
“We’re delighted Company-X has been named a finalist in this year’s ExportNZ Awards,” said Company-X director David Hallett.
“It recognises the work that everyone in the Company-X team has put into growing the business since we registered the company with the New Zealand Companies Office in 2012. Since then we have grown from employing a handful of staff to a team of nearly 40 clever and talented men and women. We call them the X men and X women!”
Fellow director Jeremy Hughes said he was humbled that Company-X had been singled out, among other businesses who had entered the ExportNZ Awards in 2017, for its export results.
“Being named as a finalist in the ExportNZ awards recognises everyone who has worked at Company-X over the last five years. It provides our growing team of project managers, business analysts, technical support analysts and software developers with the perfect opportunity to stop and think about the role they have played in the company’s success.”
The ExportNZ Award is the fourth award Company-X has been up for in the last year.
Hughes was a finalist in the 2016 New Zealand Excellence in IT Awards. The One Network Road Classification Performance Measures Reporting Tool (ONRC PMRT) went on to win the Roading Asset Management Innovation Award at the Road Infrastructure Management Forum in Auckland. Company-X was also a finalist in the Strategy and Planning category of the Westpac Waikato Business Awards for 2016.
The ExportNZ Awards programme has been inspiring New Zealand exporters to expand their business horizons and grow internationally since 2009. In that time the ExportNZ Awards has celebrated 104 inspirational success stories. These stories of Kiwi ingenuity, innovation, and export success showcase the incredible diversity of our export sector.
The awards recognise businesses who back the government’s plan to build export markets for New Zealand and increase the contribution of exports to the economy by 10 to 40 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.
The winners will be announced at the Air New Zealand Cargo ExportNZ Awards gala dinner on Thursday, June 29 at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland.
Waikato Milking Systems chief executive Dean Bell, whose company was supreme winner last year, said, “Our focus has always been on innovating, designing and manufacturing milking systems and technologies which revolutionise dairy farming and we hadn’t formally paused to reflect and compare our achievements with other leading New Zealand businesses.”
