Software specialist superheroes Company-X wins Westpac Waikato Business Awards.
Company-X’s ever-growing team of software specialist superheroes won two top accolades at the Westpac Waikato Business Awards.
The Hamilton-based company, founded by David Hallett and Jeremy Hughes in 2012, won the Service Excellence and Global Operator categories at the annual business awards.
Hughes was asked, at the Waikato Chamber of Commerce organised event at Claudelands Event Centre on November 2, which award Company-X would like to take home if it could claim only one.
“I’d choose the Service Excellence Award,” said Hughes. “If you provide excellent service to your clients, the rest will follow.”
The award recognizes Company-X’s consistent dedication to superlative service and its commitment to the customer through its service values.
“Company-X has built a reputation for delivering exceptional service to its clients by consistently exceeding expectations of what’s possible,” said the judges. “The refreshing people-centric approach to software design and delivery ensures that the right staff are working with the right clients to keep projects on time and on budget. David and Jeremy lead the company’s service philosophy by embedding service excellence into all aspects of their operation.”
The Global Operator Award recognizes Company-X’s work within the global market, outstanding international trade achievements, sustainable growth and results.
“Company-X are an impressive Waikato-based global operator that have an unrelenting focus on strong relationships with their customers and partners while building the best teams,” said the judges. “They have a clear strategy that is articulated and understood throughout the organisation. Making decisions about which work they take on and who to partner with is always pulled back to your values and strategy.
“The partnering approach to overseas markets has proven successful, and the focus on key customer and partner relationships is providing further opportunities as they become more widely known for customer service, expertise and delivery.”
The Company-X team does a lot of brainstorming when solving a client’s problems.
“Before we start, we ask who is going to come up with the stupidest brilliant idea, and who is going to ask the stupidest question,” Hughes said. “It’s between the cracks of those queries that we sometimes find the seeds of our best solutions and it’s up to the ever-growing Company-X team to feed and water those seeds through to a complete and successful working system.”
Company-X clients include multinational companies headquartered overseas and domestic businesses.
“That’s really exciting for us as a company,” Hallett said. “We are contributing to the trade surpluses in New Zealand. When we work for overseas companies, we are growing the Waikato and growing New Zealand. The tax we pay for that income helps pay for hospitals and schools and it is a really great feeling.”
The Westpac Waikato Business Awards wins follow Company-X being named the Fastest Growing Technology Company in the Central North Island in the Deloitte Fast 50.
Company-X also sponsored the Innovation Award, which was won by Montana Group. The Innovation Award recognized Montana’s success through innovation – both in thinking and implementing of an idea. Montana also won the Business Growth Award, the Strategy, Planning and Governance Award and was Supreme Winner.
“It was absolutely fitting that the winner of the Innovation Award should be the Supreme Winner,” Hughes said.
“Montana’s win was very well deserved,” Hallett added.
“Entering the Westpac Waikato Business Awards is like entering the 100-metre sprint at school and running against the best of the athletics team,” Hughes said. “One of the reasons these are such special awards is looking at the finalists gave us the same feeling. We were in exemplary company.”
