ECO FRIENDLY Reuben Turner inspects biosecurity training provider Independent Verification Services' new virtual shipping container.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Independent Verification Services (IVS) asked Company-X to build a virtual reality simulation of a biosecurity risk-filled shipping container for refresher training.

THE CHALLENGES

Independent Verification Services (IVS) provides training, certification and inspections services, largely focused on biosecurity.

It Needed to rethink how accredited persons - who deal with imported goods that arrive in New Zealand by sea – are re-trained and assessed, to ensure best practice was being followed.

This would replace traditional classroom training, followed by a written assessment.

THE SOLUTION

Company-X developed and delivered a Virtual Reality solution that integrated with existing databases.

The test recipient wears a hands-free headset and sees inside the virtual container where they can move around, inspect items as well as check and complete documentation.

The assessment can be done anywhere and the test video is recorded.

THE RESULTS

By using virtual reality technology, IVS wasn’t limited by safety or availability, making sure the recipient’s breadth of knowledge is genuinely challenged.

New items can be easily added and more people can be assessed more efficiently.

The system can reflect changing assessment standards and gives IVS’s clients, greater reassurance about the quality of test outcomes and a more tangible audit trail.

This is one of the only (if not the first) use of VR for assessment and we are very proud to be offering this exclusively, enabling trainees to demonstrate their practical skills for the job rather than their memory.

QUOTES

“We chose to work with the team at Company-X due to their experience and capability.”
